| 内容記述 | There are some lexical units used by English speakers that have taken on a peculiar usage stripped of semantic content. The lexical units BABY, PUPPY, and BAD BOY are used in the normal speech and writing of some English speakers in place of more specific nominal expressions in a manner that shows them to be synonymous with the most general of English nouns: THING. In other words, they are used sometimes as general lexical alternatives. This paper presents a preliminary and limited description of the general lexical alternative usage of BABY, PUPPY, and BAD BOY. | |||||||||
