内容記述 Though a certain number of students are currently enrolled in the Komazawa Women’s University teacher training course, few of them intend to be teachers in the future. The reasons for their not choosing to become teachers vary, but most stem from anxieties about embarking on that career path. One of the main aims of this paper is to identify the causes of these anxieties and suggest means to address the students’ concerns.
The 16 senior teacher training course students, who belong to the Japanese Culture Studies Department and the English Communication Studies Department, were asked to indicate their level of desire to be teachers using percentage figures. They were also asked to write the reasons why they want to be or do not want to be teachers. The research was carried out based on students’ reflections focusing on six time points; 1. Immediately after entering university, 2. At the beginning of the second year, 3. At the beginning of the third year, 4. January in the junior year, 5. During or just after the teaching practices, and 6. August in the senior year. Microsoft Excel and KH coder were used to analyze the data. This study shows that students feel insecure about a number of factors. These insecurities ought to be removed from the teacher training course students, and various means of doing so are discussed in this paper.
