内容記述 | The suffix "-bot" is the shortened from of "robot". The word "robot" is said to be an English word invented by Czech writer and playwright, Karel Čapek, who first used the term in his drama titled Rossum's Universal Robots (1920), although his brother Josef actually coined the word. Robot was derived from a Czech word robota that meant "forced labor" by peasants in the Austro- Hungary Empire era. Therefore, robots are mechanical servants to assist humans. Since then various kinds of “robots” have been produced in fiction and in form. In Rossum's Universal Robots, many characters are metal robots manufactured at Rossum's factory. Russian-American writer, Issac Asimov is also famous for his works relating to robots such as I, Robots (1950) and his other 4 Robot volumes published from 1954 to 1985. He set “Three Laws of Robotics' in his 1942 novel Runaround. In 1973, WABOT, the contraction of Waseda ro BOT, was the first industrial robotic artificial hand or foot developed. This was the first example of "bot" words. This study observes the bots associated with computer programs or software since 1992. According to Newspaper Abstracts, the first bot was “knowbot,” a search engine, followed by "chatbot" or "chatterbot," "shop-bot" or "shopping bot" and Hot Bot or search bot. These three kinds of bots and related, expanded ones are prevailing on the Internet. Key words: morphology, word-formation, computer software, cyberspace, search engine, infobot, chatterbot, Eliza, shopping bot, Hot Bot, online shoppers, botspots, Wabot, Zakim bot, IRC bot, etc. |
