The Linguistic Atlas of the TOKYO BAY Area (1973-1997) : The above is the official name of our project for the linguistic survey along the Tokyo Bay. As you see from the title, we actually spent 25 years completing our field work for the project. In view of linguistic methodology, however, the span of 25 years is too long a time lag between the launching and terminating dates. We hence came to the conclusion that we should divide the whole region for our survey into the following six sections along the time axis. We did so in order that the collected data could be somewhat homogeneous in each section. 0) The Linguistic Atlas of the TOKYO BAY Area/TATEYAMA City & AWA District, CHIBA Prefecture, JAPAN (1973-76/1978-79), which was already published as H. SASAKI & W. A. GROOTAERS (1984) A Word Geography of Tateyama City and Awa District, Sophia University. The place is pinpointed by the horizontally lined part southernmost in the map below. 1) The Linguistic Atlas of the TOKYO BAY Area/YOKOHAMA City & the MIURA PENINSULA, KANAGAWA Prefecture, JAPAN (1982-83/1985), which is designated by (1) in the map below. 2) The Linguistic Atlas of the TOKYO BAY Area/KISARAZU, KIMITSU, & FUTTSU Cities, CHIBA Prefecture, JAPAN (1986-89), which is designated by (2). 3) The Linguistic Atlas of the TOKYO BAY Area/CHIBA & ICHIHARA Cities, and SODEGAURA Town, CHIBA Prefecture, JAPAN (1989-92), which is (3). 4) The Linguistic Atlas of the TOKYO BAY Area/Southern Boundary Zones between TOKYO Metropolis and CHIBA Prefecture, JAPAN (1992-94), which is (4). 5) The Linguistic Atlas of the TOKYO BAY Area/Eastern Boundary Zones between TOKYO Metropolis and KANAGAWA Prefecture, JAPAN (1994-97), which is (5). |
