Multi-national enterprises have succeeded in establishing powerful worldwide systems which function efficiently to make vast profits while contributing little to concrete production. Their basic logic of "the most advantageous use of capital" has brought about a state where organic value has been minimized in favor of mere monetary value. Their excessive economic power has caused serious pollution of the environment and dire social problems. Their other principle of "profit for the sake of profit itself" ignores the importance of usage and distribution, and causes adverse impact on community and social life. Value cannot be equated with price. In the present situation, in which the dry logic of the price economy is prevalent, the organic elements of social life are threatened; if they are not to disappear, a means of revitalizing the self-regulatory factors in economic activities must be found-means which is independent of the rigid pricing system of the market economy. |
